Miami, FL – (January 15, 2003) The SATH 7th World Congress and Trade Show for Travelers with Disabilities and the Mature, held January 15-19 in Miami, was the scene for the annual awards presentation. SATH recognizes individuals and organizations who have contributed to making the world more accessible for travel and tourism. “We are delighted to have so much wonderful support from so many partners in our quest to make the world a more accessible experience for all travelers,” stated Stuart Vidockler, SATH Chairman.

The prestigious “Access to Freedom Award” was presented to Pat Gray, Manager, Travel Industry Relations for American Express Travel. This award was also presented to Donna Flora, CTC, Vice President of Travel Industry Relations for American Express at ASTA’s World Congress in Honolulu.

The SATH Technology Innovation Award was presented to FAR&WIDE, in recognition of the creation of LOUD&CLEAR, a program designed to enable people with hearing Impairments to participate fully in the enjoyment of their travel experiences. Accepting the award for FAR&WIDE was Phil Bakes, Chairman & CEO.

Joel Abels, Editor & Publisher of Travel Trade was the recipient of the SATH Media Award. The award represents a lifetime of outstanding achievement in reporting travel news & issues, and for Abels’ unwavering support of the travel agency community and travelers with disabilities.
