United Spinal Partners with Microtel Inns & Suites

Jul 7, 2006

Jackson Heights, NY – United Spinal Association received a $10,000 donation as a result of a recent partnership with Microtel Inns & Suites. Through this effort, Microtel hotels nationwide are now recognized as preferred travel partners with United Spinal’s ABLE to Travel program.

To meet the specific travel needs of United Spinal members––individuals with spinal cord injuries or disorders––the Association created ABLE to Travel, which provides knowledgeable travel agents with experience to answer questions and share useful information that a traveler using a wheelchair may require. This includes accessible transportation to and from the airport, stowage of mobility equipment on board an aircraft, accessible hotel accommodations and more.

Because of the specific travel needs of people with SCI/D, this new alliance is a natural union. “All of the newly constructed sites have set Microtel apart as one of the most ADA [Americans with Disabilities Act] compliant accessible hotel chains in the country, making our collaboration mutually beneficial,” said Stephanie Acosta, Corporate Manager for ABLE to Travel. “With over 260 national and international locations, not only are the hotels accessible, but they are staffed with knowledgeable employees who have been trained to ensure that the needs of their visitors and our members are being met.”

Rachel Tyler, Vice President Microtel Inns & Suites National Sales said, “Microtel Inns & Suites is proud to enter into a partnership with the United Spinal Association.” She added, “Our common commitment, belief and providing accessible travel accommodations for all individuals are the principles to which we both strive.”
